According to a study published in 2014 in Addictive Behaviors, hypnosis works better than willpower alone. The study examined 1,000 smokers who were seeking help with quitting and found that those who were hypnotized or given self-help materials had higher rates of success.
Over half of those who went through hypnotherapy managed to go smoke-free after six months compared to just over a third of those going through self-help materials. These results are based on the largest ever study comparing methods of breaking the habit.
